A teenage boy was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was never taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged stolen remains generated social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Health Effect

She added that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, loving" boy, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from educational staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang Kai's family landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they never got that message.

Official Finding

Lead coroner informed the inquest he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his interview he was released while investigations continued."

The official concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to determine his purpose."
