Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is taking legal action against the producers of acetaminophen, alleging the companies withheld safety concerns that the drug posed to pediatric brain development.

This legal action arrives a month after President Donald Trump publicized an unproven link between using Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism in offspring.

Paxton is filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, which formerly manufactured the drug, the exclusive pain medication suggested for pregnant women, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a statement, he claimed they "deceived the public by making money from suffering and pushing pills regardless of the risks."

Kenvue says there is no credible evidence linking Tylenol to autism.

"These manufacturers lied for decades, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets," Paxton, a Republican, said.

The manufacturer stated officially that it was "deeply concerned by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the security of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the health of American women and children."

On its official site, Kenvue also said it had "consistently assessed the applicable studies and there is lacking reliable evidence that shows a verified association between taking acetaminophen and autism."

Organizations speaking for doctors and medical practitioners share this view.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has declared acetaminophen - the key substance in Tylenol - is a restricted selection for women during pregnancy to manage pain and elevated temperature, which can create serious health risks if not addressed.

"In multiple decades of investigation on the consumption of paracetamol in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has definitively established that the usage of paracetamol in any trimester of gestation causes brain development issues in offspring," the organization said.

This legal action references recent announcements from the previous government in arguing the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Last month, the former president caused concern from public health officials when he advised pregnant women to "struggle intensely" not to use acetaminophen when unwell.

The FDA then published an announcement that physicians should think about restricting the consumption of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a proven link" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been proven.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the FDA, had pledged in April to conduct "extensive scientific investigation" that would establish the source of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But authorities cautioned that discovering a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - thought by researchers to be the result of a complicated interplay of inherited and external influences - would not be simple.

Autism is a form of enduring cognitive variation and condition that influences how individuals experience and engage with the environment, and is identified using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is running for US Senate - claims the manufacturer and J&J "willfully ignored and attempted to silence the research" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case seeks to make the firms "eliminate any promotional materials" that asserts Tylenol is safe for pregnant women.

The court case parallels the grievances of a collection of mothers and fathers of minors with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the producers of Tylenol in two years ago.

A federal judge rejected the lawsuit, declaring investigations from the parents' expert witnesses was inconclusive.
