The team Vets Over 35s are situated in south Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans League Premier Tier.

Collectively, the former Premier League footballers have won fifteen big trophies and moved for total transfer fees of approximately £123 million.

Ireland began playing for the side during pre-season this summer through good friend and current team player Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish player then asked additional ex-pros, who all play in a midweek nine-a-side game, to participate.

So great is the squad depth at Wythenshawe, Niasse made his first game at defender.

"It's a bit different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just go forward - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"That movement is what I'm looking for. It's enjoyable."

Dreamlike' Feeling

In addition to the forward's 6 goals on his first game, Ireland has scored eight in 3 appearances for the side, while Boyd hit five on his first appearance and Lescott, a defender by position, scored a triple in one match up front.

The team are top of the Premier Tier with 3 wins from three and a GD of +19.

One opponent, 38, who features on the flank for the opposition, faced former Latics defender Maynor Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his nine-year-old son who Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at two global tournaments for Honduras, in addition to playing in over two hundred Premier League matches.

"It was going round like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League players," said Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit awestruck facing him to be honest.

"Even Heskey got on and he's got over 60 England appearances.

"We held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"Our group literally haven't stopped chatting about it - I was phoning my mum and brother on the way home.

"They were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a bunch of normal guys.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
