Courageous Rail Staff Member Endures Life-Threatening Wounds Amid Mass Stabbing Incident on Express Service

A brave railway employee who intervened to protect passengers during a multiple stabbing incident on a high-speed train has suffered critical wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Incident

Surveillance video allegedly shows the staff member trying to stop the attacker as the train journeyed between a city and Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied passengers fleeing through compartments.

The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Authorities declared a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Reaction and Consequences

The incident on the weekend led to 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been discharged from hospital.

A witness recorded the suspect waving a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced police on the station. He was allegedly heard shouting, "Kill me, kill me."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the courageous employee of rail staff whose family are being assisted by trained personnel,” stated a senior police official.

Labor Reaction and Appeals for Measures

Train associations were quick to commend staff and demand more action. One labor official said he would be “seeking urgent discussions with government, rail employers and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest available support, resources and robust protocols in place”.

A different association representative urged the rail company and government “to act quickly to examine security, to help the impacted workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.

Driver Praised for Rapid Action

The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been commended by union representatives for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He did not halt the train in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the assistance was almost waiting,” stated a association official.

Further Information

Authorities stated they received the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One observer recounted initially wondering if the event was a holiday joke, but quickly understood from individuals' expressions that it was real.

Authorities have stated there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a terror-related attack and have requested the public to provide with any further information.

Rail operations on the affected route are expected to experience delays until Monday, with passengers advised to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Anyone with information that could help the inquiry are encouraged to reach police by sending a message a designated number with a reference code.
