Congress Approves Legislation to Make Public Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday quickly approved to a bill that will force the release of case documents concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. Trump's team relented after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a controversy that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.

Swift Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next goes to the president for his endorsement. He indicated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though Trump has for an extended period downplayed the uproar over the official management of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he signalled his support for the House bill over the past few days, and announced he would sign the measure if it is presented to him.

Response

Democrats, along with survivors of Epstein and their advocates who were watching from a viewing area, applauded after the bill was approved. Lone dissent came from Clay Higgins, who said he worried the measure would reveal specific data of people, potential suspects and others implicated in the investigation.
